The Maw was painted in 2020 in the midst of covid. During the first few months of the lockdown, I played World of Warcraft… something many may think is off-brand for me.

 

But it was lockdown. The world was weird. I was painting and playing World of Warcraft.

 

I use to game a lot in my younger years so it was a bit of a fun escape. I’d like to say there is something deeper to this artwork, and perhaps there is, but I think I was just deep in the Shadowlands when not painting and this is the artwork that came though. I’ve always been drawn to fantastical and otherworldly themes, which is much of gaming. This painting is an ode to one of my lockdown activities.
