Every painting I create captures a reflection of both my inner and outer world at the time of its creation. Often, the full meaning only becomes clear later, after I’ve had the chance to live through and process that chapter of my life.
Inception was the first artwork I painted after moving to London. Adjusting to life in a new city was no small task—absorbing the energy of a place so different, while recovering from the enormity of the past few years spent tirelessly working on exhibitions.
After years of working non stop on exhibitions, followed by uprooting my life in Australia to start fresh in London, I found myself completely burnt out. I needed space to breathe. My studio here wasn’t ready for two months while we renovated, which forced me to pause and settle slowly into my new reality. The micro and macro changes I was experiencing became a profound initiation into surrender and letting go. With the steady love and kindness of my boyfriend, I was able to navigate this period with greater ease.
When I look at Inception, I see a woman swept up in a powerful current. Her surroundings are dark and inky, yet tendrils of light weave through, supporting and guiding her as she flows into the unknown. She’s being carried towards the light, to exactly where she’s meant to be. Her support is always present, always watching.
This painting marks the beginning of my new life in London—a life I had envisioned and manifested. With expansion comes growing pains, moments of doubt, and a torrent of shifting emotions. But these transitions are necessary.
Once we stretch ourselves and grow, we can never return to our previous dimensions. The only path is forward. The only answer is surrender.
